A leaf from my notebook
And my own little pen
With my own little hand
And with my feelings back then
Conveying with all honesty
The gratefulness I was feeling
Hoping to let you know
I poured myself into writing
Simple little words
Possessing enormous value
Though vocabulary’s limited
Every word had been for you
Couldn’t wait to show you
The first poem I ever wrote
Hoping you’d like it
Better than a simple note
With your big yet gentle hand
You used to carry me
Taking care of my innocence
Teaching me how I should be
For the things you’d done
I remember writing a poem
Expressing my gratitude
For giving me a home
And now, it’s been years
Since the day you passed away
I remember those days with you
Like they were just yesterday
